Professor Hrishikesh Pai is presently the Trustee for FIGO, Asia Oceania region (2023-2025) and has the rare distinction of having been the Past President of some of the largest national medical organisations in India, i.e., Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), IVF Society of India (ISAR), and Indian Association of Gynaecological Endoscopists (IAGE). He is a Reproductive Endocrinologist with 35 years of experience in assisted reproduction and endoscopic surgery.
Prof. Pai is also the Professor of Reproductive Medicine at D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai, India since 1991 and Dean of Indian College of Reproductive Medicine. He is the Asst. Secretary of South Asian Federation of OBGYN (SAFOG).
Presently, he is the India Country Lead of the FIGO Gates Foundation Leadership Development Initiative. He is also one of the Co-Lead of FIGO AMPLI-PPHI Project 2023 by FIGO, Jhpiego, PATH and Unitaid. He is also the Member, Steering Committee of WHO Global Summit on PPH. He is the Sub-Committee Co-Lead of Innovation Equity Forum (IEF) by the Gates Foundation and National Institute of Health, Bethesda USA. He is the Chief Administrator – FOGSI Manyata Project to reduce maternal and infant mortality in India by upgrading the Maternity Homes (a FOGSI – MSD for Mothers – MacArthur Foundation – Jhpiego – USAID initiative) (2017 till date).
He was the Founder Chair of Indian Special Interest Group at American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Board Member of International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) for 9-years (Assistant Treasurer, Director of Corporate Affairs and Director of External Affairs).
Prof. Pai has been MD Gold Medalist and did his Research Fellowship in Reproductive Biology from Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia in 1989-1990 and 2-years Masters in Clinical Embryology from the Jones Institute, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, USA in 2006 following which he was appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Clinical Embryology and Andrology there.
During his career, Prof. Pai has delivered 50+ orations and 700+ lectures. He has been Editor of 61+ books and contributed 60+ book chapters, published 50+ research papers and co-edited 26 GCPR (Good clinical practice guidelines) of FOGSI.
Prof. Pai has received 68 awards including Honorary FRCOG Fellowship ad eundem of the RCOG, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK in 2019, Eminent Physician Award National Indian Medical Association (IMA) 2022, Kanak Goel Community Service Award National IMA 2017, Indian Society for the Study of Reproduction and Fertility (ISSRF) Lifetime Achievement Award 2019, Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 and Academy of Clinical Embryologists (ACE) Lifetime Achievement Award 2023.
