Stella Dantas, MD, FACOG, is the 75th president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Stella Dantas is an obstetrician–gynecologist and medical director of graduate and undergraduate medical education with Northwest Permanente (NWP), where she has served as clinic and hospital lead, recruiting committee member, gynecology quality assurance committee member, obstetrics and gynecology residency site director and medical student coordinator, and Kaiser GME Executive Committee member. She has also served as NWP director of operations for specialty care and associate medical director of ambulatory and convenient care.
Dr. Dantas received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Dr. Dantas’ extensive history of involvement with ACOG includes holding positions such as Hawaii Section Junior Fellow officer and Oregon Section Fellow vice chair, chair, and legislative chair. On the District level, she has held the positions of secretary, treasurer, chair-elect, and fellow chair of District VIII and served as chair of the Council of District Chairs. She has served as adviser to the District VIII Junior Fellow council and Young Physician representative for District VIII. Dr. Dantas has also been a member of several ACOG groups, including the Committee on Nominations; the Committee for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement; the Committee on Practice Management; the Committee on Government Affairs; the Committee on Professional Liability, which she also chaired; the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence Workgroup; the Finance Committee; and the Governance Committee.
In recognition of her passion for teaching and mentorship, Oregon Health & Sciences University, where she earned her medical degree, has awarded her community faculty teaching awards and medical student teaching awards. NWP has recognized her with an excellence in teaching award and a Distinguished Physician Award. She has received ACOG’s Mentor of the Year Award for District VIII and received the Outstanding District Service Award for District VIII at the 2023 ACOG Annual Clinical & Scientific Meeting.
